Speaking to the press on August 3, Akaydın saıd that “the July 15 incident is a theater performance, it is playing house, I watched it on the television like a comedy show. The state itself has killed these 250 people”.
In a statement Akaydın made as a response to the reactions against his words, he demanded that the coup attempt be properly examined and that the coup plotters be asked to account for the action.
Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor Ramazan Solmaz launched an investigation into Akaydın on charge of “being a member of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Organization (FETÖ/PDY)”, “inciting people to grudge and hostility, insulting people” and “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”.
