Washington HattiTurkey’s Supreme Military Council (YAS) decided on Wednesday to replace the heads of the army, air force and navy, local media reported.
The YAS, which meets every August, held a four-hour meeting chaired by Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Wednesday. The decisions made during the meeting will be presented to President Tayyip Erdogan for approval.
According to local Turkish reports, new Navy Commander will be Vice Admiral Adnan Özbal. This is the first time a vice admiral appointed as the force commander in the history.
Same local reports wrote that new Air Force Commander will be Hasan Küçükakyüz. Akyüz was taken hostage during failed coup attempt on July 15th, 2016 while at a wedding in Istanbul by coupist soldiers.
New Land Forces will be Yaşar Güler. Güler was also taken hostage during the failed coup and taken to Akinci Air base outside of Ankara along with General Chief of Staff Hulusi Akar. Becoming new Land Forces, General Güler now has become the strongest candidate to replace General Chief of Staff.
