168 taken into custody in Turkey last week due to social media shares, up from 151 from previous week

168 individuals were taken into custody during last week charged with social media posts. Last week it was 151 people detained due to social media posts. 

Ministry of interior  released a report to inform how many people have been taken into custody due to their social media shares during last week. The ministry informed that 168 account owners found by police forces’ social media teams out of 2619 social media accounts. 1403 account owners were identified by security forces and 168 of them taken into custody yet.

There is no information about whether detainees who taken into police custody are arrested or not yet.

According to the brief, examined accounts were found connected with various terrorist organizations including FETO, PDY, PKK and ISIS. Account owners are charged with making propaganda for terrorist organizations, revealing being member of a terrorist organization, leading public to hate and hostility, defaming statesmen and officers, harming the safety of society and making hate speeches.
