Turkey’s pro-Kurdish HDP MP under investigation for “insulting” Erdogan

Summary of proceedings is prepared for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, HDP Ankara Parlamentarian, with a claim of “insult to President” in his statement to the prosecutor.

After immunities were lifted, many parlamentarians – including HDP co-president Selahattin Demirtaş – were detained on November 6,2016 due to they didn’t give statement to prosecutor before. According to Mahmut Lıcalı’s report on Cumhuriyet newspaper, the new summary of proceedings about Önder, who was detained on that day too, came to TBMM last week.

Önder’s statement was noted in the summary: “I’m here as an parlamentarian. It’s not possible that I would let this identity and popular will that I represent to get disrespected. I have no qualms about answering to fair and objective justice. And there is nothing that I couldn’t answer. While justice’s prestige is disregarded in our country, it’s possible that lots of prosecutors and members of the judiciary, who prepared these summary of proceedings, would be detained because of high treason. I have no hesitation in you and no disrespect to you. However, it’s not possible for me to accept this trial process which was started with Erdoğan’s order, who has doubtful political past.”

In the summary, Lifting the immunity is demanded on the grounds that Önder insulted President in his statement.
