Officials of the Turkish Ministry of Environment have stated that serious problems might arise in the Green Climate Fund due to the withdrawal of the US
After US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Treaty, Turkey has taken a new decision on its position about the deal. Although has signed the agreement last year, Turkey has taken a new approach to the approval process of treaty after Trump’s decision. Trump’s disapproval has risen concerns about the future of agreement that supposed to go into effect in 2020. Turkey, in order to pass the agreement through Turkish Parliament, is going to follow the US attitude and the future of the treaty.
The Ministry of Environment and Urbanism views the withdrawal of the United States, who would have contribute the large amount to finance of climate change treaty, as a huge risk for future of treaty. Also the most important condition for Turkey to become a party to the agreement is to guarantee a share from the Green Climate Fund.
Officials of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism stated that serious problems would arise in the Green Climate Fund due to the withdrawal of the US and said “US was greatest source of the Fund. Without the Green Climate Fund, no country can take measures to decrease the level of greenhouse gases.” Authorities also pointed out that the agreement supposed to take place starting from 2020, saying, “Now the future of the agreement will be the topic of discussion again. Kyoto also could not be implemented in a healthy way.”The other issue for Turkish Government is the possibility of not getting a share from the Fund. Turkey, as seen in developed countries, cannot get a share from the $ 100 billion fund which will be created for green energy, green transportation and emission reduction technologies. Turkish Government is planning to get a share from fund by entering the developing countries class
