Ahmet Taşgetiren, known for his close ties to the AKP, said that the “‘no’ camp in the referendum has caused excitement” in reference to the presidential elections in 2019. Tasgetiren’s remarks are seen as a confession for accepting actually “no” in Turkey’s presidential referendum last month has won.
His comments from his most recent column written on May 5 include the following:
“The event that will garner most of the headlines in Turkey in 2019 will be the presidential elections without a doubt. The ‘no’ camp that has come out of the referendum and the local elections has caused a lot of excitement. Here, the alliances will be less and the race between the parties will come to the fore – despite this, the necessity of the alliances will be affected in the presidential election. In this way, there will be a lot of enthusiasm in forcing these alliances.
