Good News for “No” Voters in Turkey: Visa Exemption from Germany may be on its way?

German foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel, who opposed the suspension of EU negotiations with Turkey, proposed a visa exemption for those who voted ‘NO’ in Turkey’s referendum 2 weeks ago. Minister Gabriel emphasized the necessity of searching for ‘new dialogue channels’.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, who was in Malta for the EU Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, has previously expanded the ‘travel convenience’ proposal to include those who vote ‘No’ in referendum: He said “Why do not we get visa exemption for intellectuel people, artists, journalists and non-governmental organizations? I mean not for everyone, but for the people who voted “No” in the referendum and aimed to be democratic. I think we should not disappoint them.”
