By Ilhan Tanir, Washington DCReza Zarrab’s lawyer submitted 2 page letter to the Judge along with FARA documents of Rudy Giuliani’s company which has been a FARA registrant for the Turkish Government since 2014.
In the letter, Brafman stated “neither Greenberg nor Debevoise represent Mr. Zarrab’s co-defendant, Mehmet Hakan Atilla. Accordingly, we do not believe that these firms’ representation of Mr. Zarrab affect Mr. Attilla.”
Mr. Atilla is the CEO of Halkbank, Turkey’s largest public bank. He was arrested in New York in late March, and his case is also combined with Zarrab’s.
Brafman also submitted Rudy Giuliani’s firm Greenberg’s Foreign Agents Registration Act (“FARA”) representation of Turkey, since 2014 to the most recently filed report. Most of the FARA docs appeared to be heavily redacted.
Brafman stated “other than the financial institutions enumerated in the affidavits attached to our April 14, 2017 submission to the Court, there are no clients that either Greenberg or Debevoise represent that would create a potential conflict for these firms due to their respective representation of Mr. Zarrab.”
