Five Soldiers Killed Four Injured in Southeast Turkey

Five soldiers were killed, and another four were injured yesterday in explosions in Şırnak, Kars and Bitlis provinces of Turkey.

In the rural area of Şenoba in Uludure district of Şırnak, two soldiers were wounded due to the explosion of hand-made PKK explosives during security search operations. Despite all efforts, the injured soldiers who were taken to Şırnak State Hospital by helicopters lost their lives. Extensive military operations have been started in the region to neutralize PKK attacks.

One of deceased, Specialist Sergeant Sedat Düzgün (29) was married and from Çorum province of Turkey. The other soldier was identified as Specialist Sergeant Nezir Pırnacı (26) from Saruhan district of Manisa province. Following a military ceremony in Şırnak the soldiers’ bodies will be sent to their hometowns.

In a separate incident, two soldiers were killed, and three soldiers were wounded during search operations in the rural area of Kağızman district of Kars due to a landmine explosion.

In Bitlis, during another explosion, one soldier was killed and another one injured.

The Turkish Military did not identify the soldiers killed and injured in Kars or Bitlis as of yet.
