It was speculated that Özkan’s arrest was due to a speech she gave on June 10. Following the interrogation at the police station, she was transferred to court for detention. The judge’s decision to detain her was explained as ‘being a member of an armed terrorist organization.’
Burcu Çelik, lawyer and a member of HDP’s Prison Committee, announced that she got arrested via her social media account and, wrote “I got arrested… Greetings to all friends…”
Before the arrest, Çelik interviewed with Hasan Akbaş – a journalist at Evrensel newspaper -, about the violations that occurred in Muş on referendum day: “Especially on election day, there were extraordinary security measures. We saw people in uniforms standing next to the ballot boxes or in school entrances. We have determined block votes in almost 70 ballot boxes, and also we found out that some voters, who are actually registered in a different province here. We filed objections for these.”
MP sent a tweet to inform that she is detained.
Çelik also reminded footages about a mukhtar in Çatbaşı village, who left voting cabin with five envelopes. “This mukhtar is only one example. We found out that there are hundreds of cases like this. According to some of the information that we got, some mukthars and imams in the region were pressured before the campaign. This situation happened not only in Çatbaşı village but at most ballot boxes in Muş, especially. “
