Turkish Prosecutor asks up to 3 consecutive life sentences for 16 columnists & editors

Accusations such as “attempting to remove the constitutional order”, ”attempting to remove the parliament or prevent it from working”, “attempting to remove the government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from working” and “being a member of an armed terrorist organization” were directed to 16 defendants from İstanbul Public Prosecutor Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau.

Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan, Ekrem Dumanlı and Nazlı Ilıcak are also among the accused.

In the indictment, Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan and Nazlı Ilıcak accused for their speeches on a TV program at Can Erzincan TV, which closed after 15 July coup attempt. Prosecutor consider those speeches as Algebra.

Three aggravated life sentences was demanded for:

8- FARUK KARDIÇ

9- FEVZİ YAZICI

11- MEHMET HASAN ALTAN

12- OSMAN ÖZSOY

14- ŞÜKRÜ TUĞRUL ÖZŞENGÜL

15- TUNCAY OPÇİN

16- YAKUP ŞİMŞEK
