US-based Mercy Corps also is among four foreign foundations whose activities have been terminated. It has been stated that The US State Department is lobbying the Turkish government to allow this facility maintain its work in Turkey. An official informing Hürriyet daily newspaper stated that Mercy Corps’s work permit was canceled due to “national security” and that the permits of the other three institutions also were not renewed.
The authorities speaking in regard of these four NGOs stated that NGOs had continued their activities by illegally collaborating with foreign NGOs and individuals along with unauthorized ‘Turkish societies and foreign NGOs, and noted that they also worked on this issue.
The foreign organizations which their activities cancelled in Turkey this year are:
Mercy Corps Turkey Representative: The permission to open a representative office in Turkey was canceled on 20.02.2017.
Italy-based Coordination of the Organisations for Voluntary Service (COSV): Permission to operate in Istanbul, Gaziantep, Kilis, Hatay ended on 15.01.2017 and was not renewed.
UK based International NGO Safety Organization (INSO): Permission to operate in Gaziantep ended on 15.01.2017 and was not renewed.
US-based Business Software Alliance Incorporation (BSA): Permission to operate directly in Turkey ended on 03.02.2017 and was not renewed.
It is stated that the Turkish Coalition of America permission request to open a representative office in Turkey also ended with its own request on 01.02.2017.
Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak, who is also was a guest at Anadolu News Agency Editor’s Desk, said, “These foundations should not operate abroad without permission, do not transfer money without permission and let sentenced workers to work for them. While fighting with ISIS and PKK / PYD, we have seen many activities of these foundations. “
