Italian ANSA News Agency journalist arrested in Turkey

Italian ANSA News Agency and La Repubblica newspaper reported that Gabriele del Grande (35), Italian journalist and documentarist, was detained during security check in Hatay, Turkey. Reason of the detainment is yet unknown, according to diplomatic sources.

Italian authorities who are closely monitoring Del Grande’s situation have started attempts to have him released. It is learned that he has arrived Turkey a few days ago to make some interviews for his new book about the war in Syria and the birth of ISIL. Gabriel Del Grande was crowdfunded for his 12 months research.

Del Grande, who is well-known for his studies about the immigration crisis in the Mediterranean, has been in Turkey several times for his book project. He has been publishing his relevant articles in the blog site ‘Fortress Europe’.

Late Tuesday Turkish press reports indicated Italian journalist Gabriele Del Grande who has been detained in Hatay will be deported from Turkey in the next 48 hours.
