Adding insult to injury: CHP official charged for ‘insulting’ Erdogan

The hearing for Adnan Keskin, former general secretary of the opposition CHP, has begun over alleged charges of insulting President Erdoğan in a speech made last September at the opening of a CHP office in Denizli. According to Keskin, who spoke outside the courthouse after handing over his statement to the prosecutor on Monday, a couple of sentences in the speech he made had been misconstrued: “There was one mention of the President on the first page of my four-page long speech. In that assessment, I referred to him and talked about him as ‘Mr. President’ with the respect needed to give a President. There was no other evaluation of the President made in any other parts of my speech.”
