After the killing of Kemal Kurkut in Diyarbakir during the Newroz celebrations by a police officer, a request from the prosecutor’s office for the arrest of the pollice officer has been rejected by the court.
Kemal Kurkut was shot by the police for “ maybe wearing a bon vest,” although Kurkut was half-naked.
Kurkut was a student at the Inonu school of arts and out of the two officers who were related to his killing, one was released and the other faced trial but eventually was on probation.
As a result, the prosecutor had appealed the court’s decision by filing an arrest motion for the suspect that was released on probation. Yet, after consideration the court decided to reject the request.
