After their assistant general managers arrest in USA, Turkey’s powerful bank released a statement and called the arrest a treacherous attack and claimed that Gülen movement is behind it.
Halkbank is their statement told: “It is an obvious fact that our bank deserves a praise which has not been subject to any enforcement since the first day.
The allegations expressed as reasons for detention are the result of the allegations made on 17-25 December 2013, which have nothing to do with our bank, and it is obvious that this treacherous attack is economic / financial part of the previous attack made by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization at that time against the country via targeting our Bank.
Our Assistant General Manager Mehmet Hakan Atilla who is responsible for International Banking, was detained on 27.03.2017 (Turkish time: 28.03.2017 01:30) and later arrested when he was about to board a plane at New York JFK Airport. After the first hearing, the prosecutor’s office has been given time to prepare an indictment and a hearing will be held on 10.04.2017.
Mr. Mehmet Hakan ATİLLA went to the United States seven times between 2014 and 2017 and has been in contact with a number of international financial institutions and senior public administrators during his travels. Because of that detention of him at the airport while returning from the last trip is questionable.”
