By Ela Gonca Izmirli

The National Security Council (MGK), headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced that the Euphrates Shield Operation carried out to secure the border between Turkey and Syria and to prevent the threats and attacks of the ISIS terror group have ended.

A written statement made following the MGK meeting stated that information regarding the political, military and humanitarian developments in Syria and Iraq were presented to the Board.  The Council said that the operation carried out with the aim of ensuring the border security and preventing the threats and attacks of ISIS terror group is successfully completed.

The statement made by the Council also emphasized that allies’ support for the groups declared terrorist by Turkey and the anti-Islamic/racist attitudes displayed by some European countries against Turkish politicians and statesmen would damage international relations.

No statement was made regarding the extension of State of Emergency that was declared in the aftermath of the failed July 15 coup, which allows the government to use wide-ranging powers.
