By Ilhan Tanir, Washington DCActing United States Attorney Joon H. Kim today asked Richard Berman’s court to ask Rudy Giuliani and Michael Mukasey not to be accepted as Reza Zarrab’s attorneys.
Giuliani and Mukasey joined Zarrab’s team of attorney on late February.
Kim on behalf of the US Government argued on the base of “potential conflicts of interests” by these representations, asked Judge German to hold Curcio hearing to reject both Giuliani and Mukasey’s demand to be on Zarrab’s team.
Giuliani’s name for weeks mentioned as Trump’s potential Attorney General or Secretary of State. Mukasey’s name also mentioned as possible replacement for Preet Bharara’s place as New York South Distict Attorney.
Currently Giuliani is on Trump’s administration as cybersecurity adviser. Question is how it’s possible for someone like Giuliani who is on Trump team as to become lawyer of Iranian born businessman against Trump Government’s Attorney General.
An Iranian-born Turkish businessman has been arrested in Florida March of 2016 on charges that he and others conspired to conduct hundreds of millions of dollars in financial transactions for the Iranian government or other entities to evade U.S. sanctions.
Update: Not only Mukasey, but Mukasey’s son Marc Mukasey also in the running to replace ousted US Attorney Preet Bharara, sources told The New York Post on in the past.
Letter from Acting US Attorney Kim is below.
