In the trial that took place in a courtroom in Erzurum, the defendant, Sinan Kurt defended himself and has rejected the allegations made by the prosecutor. He argued that his social media activity was legal and he didn’t do anything that was outside of the law.
Released with 5 years on probation
Kurt argued that his social media posts did not make any violent references and has said “I have nothing to deal with the [Gülenists]. On the contrary, I shared posts that made constructive criticism that aimed to unify our country. My comments were in the interest of our country. My words were in no case part of a terrorist propaganda. I also do not accept the allegations made by the prosecutor.”
The court decided that there were enough evidences to prove that Kurt had committed the crime and condemned him to 10 months in jail at first but then released the defendant on the condition of not committing a crime for 5 years.
