No Legal Action Taken Against Rector Who Fired Record Number of Academicians from Reputable Ankara University

The Diken is reporting that no legal action is taken for seven criminal indictments against the rector of Ankara University, Erkan Ibis. Mr. Ibis is known for dismissing record number of academicians from Ankara University after the issuance of the President Erdogan’s Decree No. 686.

330 academicians -115 from the ‘Academicians for Peace Initiative’ –  were dismissed from their posts after the issuance of Decree No. 686. Mr. Ibis dismissed a record 34 ‘Academicians for Peace Initiative’  from Ankara University.

Evrensel Newspaper is reporting that the prosecutor’s office in Ankara received eleven criminal complaints including bribery and corruption charges against Mr. Ibis. The prosecutor’s office started an inquiry against Mr. Ibis but after a six-day investigation decided to throw out three out of eleven charges due to lack of evidence. The prosecutor’s office sent seven charges to the Council of Higher Education (YOK) which did not take any criminal action against Mr. Ibis.

One criminal complaint was about Mr. İbis’s wife, Nebahat İbis’s company ‘Flavius ​​Skin Esthetics and Health.’ According to the filed complaint, family owned company  Flavius signed a partnership agreement with Saudi German Hospital Group in 2013. In July of the same year, Mr. Ibis signed a co-operation agreement between the university and the same company.

Another complaint is about fraudulent Bankruptcy. The complaint details Mr. Ibis transferring his property to his wife to conceal the assets from the court.

İbiş argued that the company declared bankruptcy after he left and his wife was not involved.
