Journalist of closed Dicle Haber Agency (DİHA), Nedim Oruç acquitted of all charges leveled against him after 5 months in jail

After 5 months in jail, DİHA reporter Nedim Oruç gets acquittal and said; “I was taken into custody in Silopi and now I am here in Silopi again. I will continue to write about the truth in Turkey.”

Dicle News Agency (DİHA), reporter Nedim Oruç who was taken into custody in Silopi, Şırnak in January 6 and was arrested over “making propaganda for a terrorist organization”.

According to report of DİHA, Oruç was taken into custody from the house by force  along with the other in the same neighborhood. No information could be obtained about him for a while this led to the outrage in the Silopi residents. After campaigns in various platforms, such as #NedimOruçNerede hashtag in Twitter, Public Prosecutor Office of Silopi admitted that Oruç was in custody. After his released, Oruç suggested that he was tortured by Turkish police while he was being taken into the custody.

Nedim Oruç, acquitted of all charges leveled against him due to his reports on curfews at state of emergency in the South Eastern parts of the Turkey. However, DİHA was shot down with a statutory decree enacted by the government after the failed coup attempt in the last summer along with many media outlets.  Regardless of the closure of DİHA, Nedim Oruç told: “I will continue to write about the truth in Turkey.”
