MHP opposition Yusuf Halaçoğlu and Ümit Özdağ get attacked — again

Turkish Opposition Figures Under Pressure

A group of 150 people who wanted to enter violently a building in which an event held and MHP’s dissident voices Yusuf Halaçoğlu and Ümit Özdağ attended also, reported by Cumhuriyet Daily.

Independent deputy Ümit Özdağ and MHP Kayseri deputy Yusuf Halaçoğlu were participated to a meeting held in a wedding hall at Mezitli district of Mersin. A group of 150 people who claimed to be MHP member wanted to enter building and sabotage the meeting. Security force team blocked the group.

On Wednesday March 8th,  in Mersin’s Silifke district, a group of attackers attacked Özdağ and Yusuf Halaçoğlu, who were waiting for a speech. It was heard that the attackers shouted  as”The leader of the movement is the Bahceli”. During the turmoil, Özdağ and Halaçoğlu were taken out from the meeting room.

Halaçoğlu said, “Devlet Bahçeli said ”A nationalist would not leave a job not completed” (referring a previous attack to another opposing member of MHP)  which was pretty ‘unfortunate’.” Claiming the group was guided by party he continued as “The group did not do this attack on their own. It is obvious that they(Bahceli) are guiding them. We condemn this”.
