Austria prepares a legislation to block Turkish politicians holding rallies

Austria’s new legislation amid Turkey’s diplomatic row with European countries

Austria is preparing legislation prohibiting meetings held by politicians from other countries in the wake of a political row between Turkey and some European countries.

According to an article published by HalkTV’s, Austria’s Minister of Interior Wolfgang Sobotka prepared a draft law that would block political leaders from abroad holding rallies in the country.

This draft law stipulates that the Minister of Interior has the power to cancel political meetings and rallies held for officials of foreign countries.

Austria plans to apply this law for meetings that could have a negative impact on democratic values and human rights in the country.

Under the terms of this draft law, organizers must notify authorities of foreign politicians who are planning to attend an upcoming meeting.

Sobotka said that this law will apply for politicians and officials from every country, not just Turkey.

This piece of legislation is not expected to pass before Turkey’s constitutional referendum on April 16.
