Turkish Interior Minister calls Hurriyet Columnist a ”faggot”

According to T24, Turkey’s Interior minister Süleyman Soylu used derogatory and homophobic remarks towards Hürriyet daily’s columnist Ertuğrul Özkök in a referendum consultation meeting in Trabzon. Soylu stated to Özkök “Do not interfere in things you do not know. Go to America, Europe [and] be with ”faggots”(nonoş), whoever you want to be with.” He continued by saying that the “nation’s patience should not be tried” and that Ozkök was ‘a nasty man’, who should not ever dare to utter a word again.

Özkök, in his column said “So, Adnan Menderes who got 57 percent of the vote, was not a man of the nation. Süleyman Demirel, 55 percent of the vote, was not a man of the nation. Bülent Ecevit, Turgut Özal over 40 percent of the votes, was not the man of the nation.” referring to a statement made by Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım on constitutional referendum boosting presidential power ” We are switching from the deputies [parliament] ruling to the nation ruling. There will be one man and the nation will the boss”.
