Melike Gül DemirUS Department of Defense Spokesman Eric Pahon, responding a question from Washington Hattı regarding the clashes between Turkey backed FSA and Manbij Military Council around Manbij’s South West today, called on forces to remain focused on the counter-ISIS fight and declared that the fight that appears to be launched by Turkey backed forces on Manbij as ”other objectives” which ”may cause the coalition to divert energy and resources away from Raqqa.”
Pahon, in an email, stated: ”We encourage all forces to remain focused on the counter-ISIS fight and concentrate their efforts on defeating ISIS and not towards other objectives that may cause the coalition to divert energy and resources away from Raqqa.”
Pahon also praised Turkey backed FSA forces taking over al Bab earlier, stated: “The coalition is encouraged by the progress against ISIS in al-Bab by the Turkish military and their opposition forces.”
According to the ANF (Firat News Agency), earlier on Wednesday, The Turkish military and Turkish-backed groups have targeted villages of Manbij which is held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)
It is also claimed by Manbij Military Council Spokesman Sherwan Derwish that the attacks of the Turkish army and Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) are ongoing.
US Lieutenant General Townsend claimed during the day that the Russian jets accidentally carried out airstrikes against the US-backed Syrian Forces near al-Bab in northest Syria, on wednesday afternoon.
However, after the claim, Russian Defense Ministry denied allegations by the US-led coalition that Russian jets had carried out airstrikes in Syria against the positions.
Sources follow the situation in and around Manbij between Turkey, Turkey backed FSA and SDF speculated that the if conflict continues to escalate, it “may emerge as the biggest challenge between Ankara and the Trump administration.”
