From Austrian Foreign Minister to Turkish president Erdogan: You are not welcome to hold rallies here.
After German politicians opposition to Erdogan’s rally in Germany, a similar debate began in Austria.
Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said Erdogan is not welcome to hold rallies in Austria because campaigning over the controversial referendum would “increase friction” in the country.
Kutz reminds Erdogan’s 2014 presidential campaign in Vienna and he said that campaign had created “tensions” between Erdogan supporters and Turks of Kurdish origin. Thus “we clearly reject bringing the Turkish campaign and polarization to Austria” Mr Kurz said.
“While campaign events are not welcome here, Erdogan still can visit Austria for talks with Austrian top officials” said Austrian Foreign Minister.
Harsh Rebukes from Turkish Foreign Ministery
Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hüseyin Müftüoğlu said onMonday that Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz is a racist and Islamophobic person due to his recent remarks against a probable rally by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Austria for an upcoming referendum which will widely expand his powers.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Müftüoğlu said “It seems Kurz, whose racist and Islamophobic views are far beyond radical [rightist] parties, once against tries to draw attentions for his political interests by targeting our country.”Mustafa Öz
