Azerbaijan halted broadcasting FOX TV due to Fatih Portakal’s comment on the “Azerbaijani-style of presidency” Turkish press reported.
Shortly after FOX TV’s anchormen Fatih Portakal criticized the appointment of Mijriban Aliyev to Vice President, Azerbaijan ceased FOX TV’s Azerbaijan broadcasting. CHP Istanbul deputy Bariş Yarkadaş urged Azerbaijan to reverse this decision, and he called on the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to speak up as well. Bariş Yarkadaş stated that criticism is “sine qua non” condition for democracy, and Fatih Portakal has exercised his democratic rights.
Fatih Portakal pointed out on FOX TV that “Azerbaijan has a semi-presidential system, but what kind of presidential system is this? This system is like passing the power from one family member to another.”
Azerbaijani deputy Adil Aliyev accused Fatih Portakal of trying to harm relations between the two countries. Adil Aliyev said, “The news segment about Azerbaijan was biased and one-sided. Fatih Portakal would never fulfill his will.”Öznur Kaya
