According to the Yeniasya Newspaper, an assistant professor in the Department of Biochemistry who was removed from his job at the İzmir Katip Çelebi University’s Training and Research Hospital as a part of the crackdown on the Fethullah Gulen Organization committed suicide on Sunday. Dr. Orhan Çetin jumped off the 10th floor of the hospital where he was receiving treatment for depression brought on by the suspension from his job and ended his life. Physician Dr. Orhan Cetin was removed from his post as part of the Gulen Movement investigation last Friday.
Çetin jumped off the 10th floor of the hospital he served. Severely injured, Cetin died at the hospital despite the efforts. Cetin’s body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institution of Izmir for an autopsy. Police launched an investigation into Cetin’s suicide.
The head of the Izmir branch of the Association of Health and Social Service Workers (SAGLIK-SEN), Ahmet Dogruyol made a statement on Facebook yesterday saying:
“Orhan Cetin, a biochemistry assistant committed suicide by jumping off the 10th floor of the hospital where he was receiving treatment. May he rest in peace. We recognize that those who betrayed our country must be brought to justice and punished. However, pigeonholing and punishing people before any due legal process is unsettling. Our duty as a state should not be to lose people but to win them.”
