CHP İstanbul Deputy Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi voices that she has received several letters and phone calls claiming that violence and human rights violations in prisons in Turkey have mounted after the declaration of the State of Emergency, according to news portal T24.
Pointing out the allegations that 5 inmates died in the Gebze Closed Women Prison, in the second half of 2016 İlgezdi brought up the issue to the Parliament’s agenda.
İlgezdi’s question regarding the death of 5 women inmates to Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ is as follows:
“I am receiving several letters and phone calls telling that violence and human rights violations in prisons have mounted over the course of State of Emergency. One of the letters writes the death of 5 women inmates, several violations and asserts that inmates are not sent to hospitals; they are not given their medications and exposed to pressure.
. Is the allegation that 5 inmates died in the Gebze Closed Women Prison, in the second half of 2016 İlgezdi true? If yes, what are the causes of death?
. Has any investigation been conducted over the death of 5 inmates? If not, is it being pondered to do so?
. Have the managers of the prison faced any administrative or legal questioning with regard to the death of 5 inmates? Was managers’ negligence of duty investigated?
. Is the allegation that one of the women died due to the insufficient treatment of femur fracture and heavily inflammation stemming from the unhygienic conditions true?
. How many inmates passed away in 2016, in Gebze Closed Women Prison?
