THE WORD IS TO BE UNDERSTOOD AS IT IS MEANT TO, IT SHOULD NOT BE DISTORTED FOR ANY FRAMING EFFORT
Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Numan Kurtulmuş made a statement over the comments of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım regarding the campaign carried out by the opposition to the amendment to the constitution.
Kurtulmuş said in his speech: “Neither Mr. President nor Mr. Prime Minister told literally a single word that would even slightly imply that our citizens who would vote ‘No’ are to be perceived as terrorists. The point they tried to highlight is the fact that the fractions that are against this nation, against this state are systematically and organizationally supporting ‘No’, which is an absolutely clear and apparent fact. Hence, there is no need to misunderstand the meaning intended or to make it a part of the greater misunderstanding. The fact that in Turkey, some terrorist groups that are against Turkey explicitly oppose the constitutional reform does not mean that every citizen who would vote ‘No’ is terrorist. It is not a word intended to mean this. The word is to be understood as it is meant to, and it should not be distorted for any perception operation.”
