Turkish FM Cavusoglu changes tune a day after Trump-Erdogan talk: Our next target will be Raqqa

Fierce battles are taking place around Al-Bab. Today, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu commented on the latest regarding battle grounds and what comes next. Çavuşoğlu said: ‘’The operation of al Bab needs to be finished as soon as possible. From now on, next goal in Syria is Raqqa operation. We can use special forces. We shouldn’t rely on terror groups like ISIS.’’

FM, even though did not mention it directly, apparently referred YPG when he said ‘’shouldn’t rely on terror groups like ISIS.’’

Cavusoglu mentioned that, Turkey and Turkey backed FSA’s next target, after al Bab, is Raqqa. According to Turkish FM, Turkey and coalition forces should use their “special forces” to clean Raqqa region.

Turkish officials and media had different remarks and statements on al Bab on various times in recent times. On his last statement two weeks ago about this issue, Turkish president Erdogan said “we should not go deeper in Syria.”  after al Bab. It seems a day after Erdogan and Trump spoke on the phone, Turkish backed forces are rushing into al Bab as we speak, Turkey once again decided to go all way to Raqqa.
