Turkish Academics can’t put up with pressure, resining from their posts

Mine Gencel Bek, an academic who resigned from her post at Ankara University, stated that the resignation was a delayed decision and said that, “It is very difficult for me to be in the faculty in such environment. Instead of waiting to be dismissed every day, I want to return to the world of reading and writing that doesn’t show ingratitude.”

While many academics have been dismissed by KHK decrees issued in the State of Emergency (OHAL), a professor at the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Communication, Ankara University, academic Mine Gencel Bek, who signed the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime”, has resigned from her post, stating that she couldn’t stand to what was going on anymore.

After the resignation of Prof. Mine Gencel Bek from the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Communication, Ankara University, Assoc. Prof. Esra Arsan announced that she resigned from her post.

Assoc. Prof. Esra Arsan announced that she resigned from her post at Faculty of Communication, Istanbul Bilgi University. Esra made a statement on her social media account and said, “As of today, I left voluntarily Bilgi University; I worked for 18 years. It is difficult to do science in the institutional academy under today’s conditions. Let’s stay behind for a while.”
