Turkish FM Çavuşoğlu: ”US should invite the terrorist group Daesh, too’ if PYD invited

Rebuffing Washington’s insistence that the PYD — the terrorist PKK’s Syrian wing — also be included in the Syria talks, Turkish FM Cavusoglu said, “Then the U.S. should invite the terrorist group Daesh, too”.

“If you invite a terrorist group, then you should also invite Al-Nusra, Daesh. This is nonsense,” Cavusoglu said, adding that Washington must end its cooperation with terrorist groups.

“We clearly say that all weapons supplied by the U.S. to the PYD ended up in PKK hands,” the minister added.

When asked explicitly if the PYD should be at the table, US Spokesperson Mark Toner replied last week, “At some point they have to be part of this process.”

Turkey considers the PYD and its armed wing, the YPG, to be Syrian offshoots of the PKK.

US Secretary of State nominee calls Syrian Kurds ‘greatest allies’ in fight against terrorism

Rex Tillerson, the former CEO of Exxon-Mobil and President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of State, said that the Kurds are America’s great ally in Syria.

Speaking to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Secretary of State nominee said that Washington should “recommit to the Syrian Kurds that we intend to continue to support [them] with the capability to continue the advance on Raqqa and then build coalition forces that can contain ISIS if it attempts to move into other parts of the country.”

Tillerson, at the same hearing, also said they should re-engage with Ankara with regards to Syria.
