Turkish Contractors’ Association: Russia hasn’t lifted restrictions on Turkish businesses

Russia issued only 3-days visa for Turkish contractors

President of Turkish Contractors’ Association (TMB), Mithat Yenigun, said that even though they traveled to Russia with Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, Russia gave us only 3 day-visa.

Mithat Yenigun stated that we couldn’t overcome the obstacles with Russian market where contractor sector does 5 billion dollar worth of work in Russia every year.

According to Erdogan Suzer from Sozcu, Yenigun indicated that despite of all efforts, Russia hasn’t removed the restrictions of import and visa; neither gives sub-contractor work anymore. “We barely obtain 3-day visa when we go there with our Prime Minister. Even our biggest firm Ronesans can’t get any contract in Russia, they only continue on their existing contracts,” said Yenigun.

Waiting for Erdogan-Putin Meeting

“Business world is waiting for the meeting between President Erdogan and Vladimir Putin to solve the problems in business deals with Russia,” president of TMS said.

Contracts halted

Yenigun reminded that first they went to Russia with a group of Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) to revitalize the business dealing between the two countries, then went  there with Binali Yildirim to have a close contacts with top Russian officials. “ We, as contractors, were very hopeful after the meetings. I personally thought that we would sign 2 billion worth of new contract at the latest by New Year but the promised contracts are still waiting,” said Yenigun.
