Jailed Turkish journalist on hunger strike, her health is getting worse: ETHA press conference

ETHA (Etkin News Agency): Our manager is on hunger strike, her health is getting worse.
The ETHA held a press conference on Friday in Istanbul regarding the detention of 6 journalists who have been jailed for 20 days and ETHA’s editor Okatan’s worsening health status.
ETHA Managing Director Derya Okatan, DİHA (Dicle News Agency – shutdown) News Director Ömer Çelik ve Istanbul correspondent Metin Yoksu, Diken ex-editor Tunca Öğreten, BirGün newspaper reporter Mahir Kanaat and Yolculuk newspaper editorial manager Eray Sargın have been held in detention for 20 days due to their coverage of Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak’s hacked emails.

At the press conference held for six journalists, ETHA explained that the health condition of ETHA Managing Director Okatan on the hunger strike to protest unlawfulness of state of emergency is getting seriously worse. The agency wants journalists to be released.

Okatan, who conveyed her gratitude via her lawyers to all those who supported them, said “Our morale is good, we will continue to do journalism” in her message.
